Great video. I started my career in taking automotive classes in High School and went to a trade school. Worked in automotive field for 20 years and finally left the industry completely. Really got tired of the same things you stated… Fixing other peoples problems. Sometimes it just starts with the customer not researching what they buy or have it checked by a mechanic. People will buy some of the junkiest crap and expect you to fix it like it was brand new. Or they try to do the repairs themselves only to find out they cant and then bring it to you but fail to mention what they did. Those usually take an hour to find. Once you catch it you ask them about it and they finally fess up that they tried to do it themselves in which if they told you up front what they did you could have saved time looking into the real problem. Dont blame you one bit on the decision you made. Life just got alot better without those headaches.

This is EXACTLY what I’m about to start doing. As a shop owner I’m sick and tired of peoples bullshit. The fleet accounts I have are an absolute pain in the ass. Everyone wants something for nothing these days it’s unbelievable. If you have your own shop, sell cars and only deal with the customers that you like. This guy’s spot on.

Yup car repair is very time consuming, the customer thinks you plug the car to the computer and it tells you what is wrong, that is not the case it can sometimes help diagnose the car but does not tell exact problem. You just can't make people happy anymore, very few appreciate what services they get.

You are correct sir, you should get out of the auto repair business. You obviously are making way to much money and need to give more to other dealers who take responsibility for their actions. ALWAYS GET THE VIN # before ordering any part. It’s very simple to lose business instead of gaining customers by not asking the right questions. You seem like a fairly personable guy. As a small dealer 50% of your sales could be from repeat and referrals, 25% internet/phone, 5% walk in, but who needs a vehicle more than the customer who’s looking at a estimate which exceeds the value of the vehicle?? 20% of shop customers. What more of a captured audience could a performer ask for. You just need to reverse the thinking about customers being a problem, step up to the plate and take care of them. They will be loyal customers for life. You could be losing a ton of sales per year to the other guy who just changed their oil and left in a different vehicle. You can’t make more money by downsizing your business. Think bigger, if you hire a service rep who’s even halfway knowledgeable & likes to work on cars, doesn’t see customers as a pain but as income, they will pay for their salary, bonuses & put net profit in your pocket. The dealers making the most in this country selling new & used didn’t get to the top by deleting services. They put in quick lube, better chairs in the lounge, bigger TVs. Hell, even a detail shop is the best & biggest because they have a Starbucks on site. You have to wine & dine them before they jump into bed with you.
