I have just thrown in the towel and buying new.
IMHO, learning to "turn a wrench" has never been more useful than right now. Not only to save money keeping your current ride healthy, but to take advantage of bargain opportunities in the used market.
Before the pandemic, I couldn't even change my own air filter. I learned how because I had to. Now I can do most basic maintenance tasks (tune ups, brake pads, oil changes) without any trouble. And if I can do it, anyone can.

Actually, although it's rare, you CAN get a good deal at a dealer. I got a 2011 Impala in excellent condition (but with high mileage) nearly four years ago (August of 2019) for just $2,000 CDN. It needed a little work which with license and taxes etc. all that came to just under $3,000. It still runs perfectly, everything works fine. The Interior is almost showroom new. Still has that "new car smell"! The exterior is still fine with only minor paint scratches and weathering. Scotty is usually right, but don't discount the dealer entirely. Keep your eyes open from ALL sources!
