Toyota built the worst EV that is in the current market. Total crap, range is very poor in the cold. I Expected far more. If they built a good one, I would be more likely to believe them. Now, it just seems like a semi- excuse. Things are changing and the Chinese are looking to steal Toyota's lunch. We'll see, but they are giving a fast growing segment away as of today.

My biggest issue is with electric cars is there no way to put out lithium and hydrogen fires. Dumping thousands of gallons of water for fire suppression is a real concern in a compact area or a rural area where vast amounts of water is not available. PS. I think Toyota has the proper stance right now.

    1) The omitted consideration (but Scotty has mentioned elsewhere) is the risk of dependency on battery life/replacement cost, AND on the supply chain. 2) NEXT! We don't know the most natural balance or the truest balance of "reduced pollution, aka green economy". 3) Then there is the financial obligation to make good on unexpected negative outcomes. 4) SOCIAL AT ITS VERY ROOT. ENERGY IS DIRTY – PERIOD!!!!! Electric transportation is VERY DIRTY FROM THE MANUFACTURE OF THESE SOPHISTICATED MODERN MACHINES' ELECTRONICS AND BATTERIES!!! Trace back to the mining, refining, transport, manufacturing and it is highly driven by other energy and by dirty labor practices. Rare earth metals mining alone leave the minors with the highest leukemia of any other demographic, and we are all 3rd of 4th party responsible for it all, including for cell phones, solar, wind, computers, etc. 5) ALL OTHER MANDATORY MINING AND PROCESSING. Then consider lithium and cobalt. What about the sludge/slurry ponds of radioactive material that are massive problems. What of leaching the most toxic residues into groundwater and aquifers, perhaps the most compelling issue that may have caused the communities of the coal industry to eventually stop resisting. Some of their communities in the U.
    S. were wiped out from water exposure.

And we have not even reached 10% market penetration. but can't build the infrastructure to charge!

Hybrid – maybe the brilliant solution – but does not eliminate pollution, is what I REALLY love conceptually as a mechanical engineer.

Hydrogen would be awesome but for the fact it takes more energy to crack water into hydrogen and oxygen than you get out of it to transport the vehicle, so it is a net energy loss, perhaps quite the energy hog. Then there is storage of adequate supply close to multiple points of distribution. And we already have many clamoring over water so that looks like a no go except for specialty sensitive situations. If it can be combined with water purification at the exhaust point that might be a driver for some communities.

Benn around the EVs would not have one .. constantly watching the “drain gauge “ you really don’t have that sense of freedom..with my Nissan..I can go anywhere..anytime..and not being held in check by the “ drain gauge” 😖😖😳😖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😳🇺🇸😳😖🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

WEF wants us to have evs, so we will and/or no car at all. The will win, if they go unopposed.

I agree with Toyota. Ev's are pushed by a political movement and not by the users. It is another face if the hoax global warming pushed by a teenage girl and a few hot air politicians.

Why can’t we just use electric vehicles around the city only?! Electric cabs and buses!! I think Mazda is doing the most trying to find the most efficient engines!! There’s too many car manufacturers!!! Since their welding robots use the most power in this and other countries that would make a ton of sense!! Find the least efficient manufacturers and close them down!!

I think a majority of the public is sick of the whole "electric alternative" pushed on us. Especially when we are not close to having the Electrical infrastructure in our power grid to support it. Its just not possible to have every parking lot full of electric chargers not is it possible for the existing infrastructure to even support the absolutely massive increase in amperage. We're shutting down power plants in the US, cities are seeing increased brown outs, how's it possibly going to work. Electric power is going up at an exponential rate. It cost more to charge your EV fully than to fill up your tank and you get more miles off your tank vs EV. Not to mention, does anyone consider the far more harmful affects of mining and refining the materials for EV batteries? And the batteries aren't exactly "renewable." In fact, nothing about this push is renewable or green. Its not better on the environment and its most certainly not more economical.
We're seeing shipping, manufacturing costs skyrocketing up, does anyone consider the increase in those costs going to EVs, transitioning to electric vs gas?
The truth is, the public didn't ask for this and the majority of the public doesn't understand how this "green" push will affect all aspects of their lives. The sad fact is, none of this is about our environment, wildlife or making life on earth better for us. We're being pushed this for other reasons. If you buy into the "green" push, get ready to eat ze bugs, walk or take a bike to work in your 15min cities, live in a 250sf coffin apt, own nothing and be happy!
