Scotty just blew my mind about the sperm whale oil. I knew they still used it for precision clock movements, I have some somewhere?

BUT, transmission fluid, how many whales do you have to kill for that ?

I had a Ford Aerostar with the A4LD automatic transmission and I was able to make it last for over 187,000 miles by changing it every 25-30k miles with a filter. It died because it leaked from a seal and my wife drove it dry.

I never FLUSHED it, as Scotty has pointed out, just a scam.

One brain surgeon at the Ford dealer loudly complained because the tranny flush he was doing was taking too long. I walked over to his bay and asked him was he suppose to be flushing the guy's power steering ?

When they say "lifetime" that isn't a human lifetime. That is a the lifetime of the part. If a transmission has an expected life of 200,000 miles then "lifetime" is 200,000 miles.

Are you using a new camera? Looks higher resolution, or green screen. Good job.

One of the reasons why trans fluid needed to be changed was because the transmissions were NOT sealed, which allowed dirt, moisture and air into the trans. The combination of air and heat would cause the old non-synthetic fluids to oxidize, that's why they needed to be changed. Modern transmissions use synthetic fluids that resist break down from heat, and the trans is sealed no fresh air gets in. Cracking open a sealed trans will probably reduce the life of the trans. BTW, ALL transmissions will eventually wear out. Don't believe me? Change the fluid and filter in your trans. Crack open the old filter and you'll find very fine gray stuff in there. That's normal. Now put in a new filter and fluid. Change again in 20K miles. Guess what? More fine gray stuff in the filter. What is that stuff? Dirt? Nope it's material from the bands and clutch discs. No matter how much you change the fluid, that stuff will continue to wear, and eventually wear out.
