    I bought a used 2007 Corolla back in 2011. The engine blew after 2 years.

    $2800 for a replacement engine is good. Sure better than paying that much every 6 or 7 months for a new car in the form of a car payment.

    3 years after he bought it the engine went out… So we take as granted that in those 3 years he never did anything wrong to kaput the engine… I don't buy it scotty, and i drive a 22yo VW Passat clanker which i abuse daily and still haven't managed to blow the engine.

    In the US do you guys not have regular services and MOT mandated by law?

    In the UK you have to have a car that is over three years old MOTd which basically means tested for road worthiness, during that test most drivers will pay for a full service so oil, filter change, brake pad change etc.
