I keep watching these because I'm waiting for him to say 'clunker clunker clunker' again. I think he's kept us waiting long enough! 🙂
Would you have to reprogram the FOB after doing this?
So if the car has a viper alarm in which case the car key lock was condemn to use the viper alarm because probably did work doing this would set the car back to it's original factory state to use the car key
Are they ANY car computer part(s) that runs off its own internal battery?
A 10 watt resistor seems overkill to me. I seriously doubt that you'll have that much power discharging through that 1 ohm resistor. A 10 watt 1 ohm resistor can handle 3.2 amperes of current. That said, using a resistor to discharge the capacitors in the modules would be a safe way to discharge them. Sizes other than 1 ohm could be used but unless you know the design of the modules the discharge time could end up being hours with large resistors. I'm going to run some tests with my Fluke 77 voltmeter and get back to you. I don't know how they build those modules but they should have some kind of spike protection, though. Yes I'm an electronic technician with 40 years of experience.
Reminds me of static shock for motherboards which can destroy it.
Scotty how do you know when or how long to wait for it to reset??
Whats your address Scotty? I'll bring my car over for a diagnosis.
“Don’t touch the positive and the negative or you could damage something” as you remove the positive and place it in the car that is completely hooked to the negative… c’mon Scotty! As a mechanic you should know you always remove the negative first…
Once you do this, do you have to get the dealer to reprogram it?
