I have a question, my car wouldnt start and a shop i usually deal with came to jump my car bc it was freezing out so i thought it was just bc of how cold it was; they tried jumping it with a battery and jumper cables and it wouldnt start up.

They towed it to the shop and told me it is my starter and I would need a new one, now they got my car started without me replacing the starter; how can they do that?

Also when I was told how much it would be and i said i couldnt afford it the person asked me how much i could afford, I dont know if they were trying to accommodate me or just try to scam me; when i picked up the car they told me also how it was started it could last 6 days or 6 months they wouldnt be able to know and that is why Im thinking it was some sort of scam and my battery was just that cold.

My car is a 2009 dodge avenger 2.4l and i just replaced the battery in 2020, if anyone wants to weigh in please feel free!

shame on you Scotty, you didn't bother to spray off/ clean the MAF Sensor~~

Man that sucks to have to replace the main computer like that is crazy. I never liked those plug-in diagnostic cell phone reader Diagnostics. I like to use the regular OBD2 also don't use those computerized accelerators that help your car go faster from a stop I predict those with mess up your transmission over time

Hey Scotty, great vid -as always – and good to know point those OBD diagnostic dongles. Curious, do you think those insurance company driver behavior monitoring OBD devices/dongles can also cause damage? I don't trust any of 'em!

The device likely has nothing to do with the problem. The problem is only when the vehicle is cold. Thus in "Closed Loop Mode". The base parameters for the engine are off so it performs poorly. Then when warm, it enters "Open Loop Mode" and uses more sensors like down stream oxygen sensors to operate more efficiently. This car probably has a "small" air leak after the throttle body. Intake gaskets or other, but the fuel trim and/or the mass air flow per engine size at idle should hold the key.

and Verizon wo t fix the car… "it's not our problem.. the Cr was already broken

The electronic ignorance in this video and in the comments is astounding. Hmmm here's a device I don't understand how it works, it must be the issue. Correlation doesn't equal causation.

When the computer is cold there is likely a circuit that is broken that when the computer wants up the circuit is making better contact.

Scotty, my company work van 2019 cord transit 250 has a GPS/speed unit plugged into OBD port. Is this bad to drive plugged in as well?

Interesting and informative video. It makes me wonder about GM owners of more recent 5.3L and 6.2L engines that plug in these aftermarket modules in the computer ports in order to bypass the stupid AFM/DFM systems that is possibly the cause of these abnormally high lifter and push rod failure in vehicles with under 10K mile to anything over 50K miles. How much careful electrical and software engineering studies and tests have been done in the design of these $200 to $500 modules to ensure that these aftermarket modules do not eventually fry your computer electronics?
