I remember owing a 2006 ford fusion and the door lock mechanism on the passenger side was so cheap that when I autolocked one of the doors, the plastic handle blew apart leaving pieces inside handles sticking out. The dealership want to replace the whole door panel which would of been over 300 dollars but I instead bought the entire lock mechanism for around 12 dollars after shipping costs.

Plastic can be designed to break …mfg'ers put corn syrup into the plastic when it is injection molded …depending on how much is added, they can actually "schedule" when it will crack. It is all based on bio-degradation …devious !!
