Great, Informative Video, Scotty!! I loved the old Saab turbos. My dad had a few back in the day. The first time I had ever been sucked back into my seat was in a Saab turbo. I was like 6 yrs old at the time and I remember that very well. I just remember my dad saying, "Watch this…" and then I felt like I was in a jet plane taking off!!
Love you Scotty!! My 20 year old TT has an after run electric coolant pump that runs engine coolant through the turbo to cool it for 10 minutes after you turn off engine.
What a great voice with great explanation.
Scotty can you do a Video on Honda Jade MPV the regular ones and the Rs versions which I think have a turbocharged engine. And it would be nice if you can mention how reliable it is.
Scotty is my dad.
A couple of notes for you. 1. When you state that a 747 jet engine rotates at about 7000, that's the FAN up front. The CORE – the compressor – is spinning many times that. The core of such a jet engine IDLES at about 60%. That's like your car IDLING at 3500RPM! This is why we are in a hurry to take off, and will shut down an engine if there is a long taxi line. 2. You show the FAN of a TURBOFAN engine adjusting its angle for efficiency. This DOESN'T / CAN'T happen. A turboPROP (and many piston engines) DO change the pitch or blade angle of the propeller. The modern large turbofans seek efficiency through much larger FAN units which are geared (more decoupled) from the compressor section, which allows the compressor to happily spin fast while moving a huge amount of air with the fan at slower speeds. This increases the efficiency of an Airbus NEO to about 15% more than the outgoing CEO version.
Scotty, Best explanation ever. Thanks.
Love Scotty's excellent educational videos! 👍
I wonder why we've never seen an axial turbo before. Like the compressor stage of a jet engine.
