I'm that kid that wasn't well off but not worse off like others less fortunate. Have upgrade/modification kits, from that damn K.I.T. car e-brake button to an enjoyably mechanical old school drift handle(never drifted, not once.)? Got a 17' Mazda 3Touring 4sedan with it, got used to it but the power affecting usage has me just about EBAY bin digging, even if only a different design button with an emergency manual cable driven connection or something?
It's not so much cheaper as it is easier to design and install… which I guess does make it cheaper because labor is reduced in both time and training… electric e-brakes are just stupid.

well if the economy was never messed up then yeah there still could be mechanical e brakes but then youd get those jerks that like to drift and get into accidents left and right and before electronic e brakes i imagine people were being stupid af drifting all the time and causing grief with law enforcement at car meets and doing donuts at parking lots.

Ahh we grew up with them being called Emergency brakes… but these days they are called Parking brakes. and that's the problem. they just don't see it as an emergency braking system ic a lot of commenters Calling them Electronic parking brakes…. and having a electronic shifter? is really very stupid..
