Planned Obsolescence predates Clifford by a long way.
It started a very long time ago with the light bulb, it seems they lasted way too long since there is one in a Boston Firehouse that is still burning after more than 100 years. All the light bulb manufacturers got together and agreed to build them cheaper so they would fail sooner. That was the first time.
