Also consider the fact that these charging stations frequently go offline.
There are YouTubers that drive around auditing charging stations that document this.
They can’t make a phone to last a day on a charge , so no hope getting a car to last that long ! The car mix will most probably include EVs in the future but will be some sort of fuel cell most likely hydrogen and most probably a bio diesel for commercial vehicles. Plug ins may be in the mix for now and could be for premium vehicles as the technology increases but it will probably not be mainstream
This is just another way to bail out US car companies and other industries. If you are on the side getting this money great if not you are the ones giving them the money.
Let us be realistic if everyone would charge their electric cars at off-peak periods, demand for electricity would increase and off-peak would become nonexistent, and the COST of charging would become more costly. Chevrolet (the racer) sold his interest in GM due to a disagreement over producing front-wheel fast expensive automobiles, GM wish to make Chevrolet a competitor to Ford's affordable car for the masses. EVs today are for a very rich niche market equal to the one Chevrolet intended to produce. The racing car driver went BROKE and the Chevrolet by 1950 was the American CAR.
A lot of manufacturers have been switching to Lifepo4 batteries. They use no cobalt and do not have as bad a fire hazard issue. They are also lower cost.
The drawback is they hold less energy. Not really a big deal though for an EV used as a city vehicle or lower miles to work and home vehicle. Say under 75-100 mile round trip.
You also have to consider areas where EV's save money over ice vehicles on the maintenance side of things. That puts a lot of shady mechanics out of business and oil change companies.
.
my ebike runs off energy harvested directly from Earth's ionosphere
the problem is that i'm limited to running only on Earth.
HARD PASS
Lots wrong here in my opinion. First of all, the supply of Lithium right now is much less than demand, but that is only because we didn't have the demand before and hence did not have the mines to do it. There is plenty of lithium in the World and new mines are being constructed to meet increased demand. Also, lithium is very recyclable from these batteries. Thirdly, sodium ion batteries right now can get about 190 miles of range in a car and don't need lithium at all. Companies that think EVs are a fad are taking a big chance.
Republicans hate EVs, fossil fuel companies have a Republican congressman in every pocket.
Everyone will need personal nuclear power plants to charge there EV's and run their homes.
It's best practice to call your insurance company before buying any new vehicle, however, my wife went from a 2010 carvan, to a 2018 Chevy Volt and her insurance went down!
