In This Video I share with you why some car repair shops get bad reputations. What started as a routine and simple timing belt job turned into a multi hour major surgery to this engine because of malpractice from a shop that did this maintenance before!

This infuriates every mechanic and shop owner! We work very hard to do right by people and do quality work. Then come some mechanics that just make it all go away! This makes me sad!

This beautiful 1999 Toyota Camry V6 wasn’t maintained as it should using the usual cheap quality parts and “over maintained” unnecessarily.

Folks be careful with mechanics and shops. You need to trust your car mechanic. if you don’t, it’s a mistake to continue using them. Ask them to show you things, Ask them to show you the new parts and old parts. No good mechanic gets upset if you ask for your old parts back. It is my pleasure to show you your old parts back and better yet show you anything before we start the job so you are well informed and fully understand why every job costs what it does.

Same here Toyota dealership serviced my transmission with valvoline transmission fluid instead of using OEM fluid, I was super mad

AMD, first of all fanrastic to see such a classic again. Second, indeed sad the done repair in the past. Good that you mention again to check the mechanic you deal with.

I'm not mechanically inclined, but have learned to take care of the basic stuff you pointed out to save myself from being taken advantage of by dishonest mechanics. Last summer, I brought my Prius to a dealership I trusted for an oil change. We planned on a 10 day road trip to multiple States and figured they can also do multipoint inspection and potentially recommend something before hitting the road. I purposely drive 1 hour to this dealership as opposed to the one we have in our city because I've always had a good experience with them until that day. When the service advisor went through the checklist, everything was good except the cabin filter. She mentioned it was dirty and needed to be changed on my next visit. I told her impossible. I just changed both the air and cabin filters 2 days prior. She couldn't say anything else, but more than glad to charge me $100 something for the mediocre service. What annoyed me with the whole process is that it cost us our vacation which we planned for a year due to a dying auxiliary battery. We had to drive home 2 days ahead of schedule, after we got stranded on top of a mountain at Mesa Verde NP in Colorado. I really thought there was something wrong with the car with all the lights flashing on the dashboard, and chimes going off. How could the technician miss it and claim on the worksheet that my 12v battery is still good? definitely red flag for incompetence. Keep up the good work and thank you for your very informative videos.

This video is gold!! You point out so much thats wrong and you demonstrate by example of how a job should be done. Fixing other places f ups is bad enough…compounding it like the exhaust weld crap on this job compounds it all the more. I am very car savvy…many busted knuckles over the years working on my own stuff or helping friends. There are some things you just flat don't skimp out on…brakes is one…i always get name brand parts I am familiar with and when I have had shops work on my stuff I have always asked for the old parts back.
I had front axles done on my 99 2WD Rav4…only one can be acquired still from Toyota…who would or do you recommend for getting CV axles? I ask this as one of my replacements is starting to talk to me in unkind ways. As for the timing belt kits…when I did some digging and found out that Toyota owns Aisin I was stoked big time!! As for decent aftermarket hub and bearing assys who would you recommend ?? I have a rear to replace on my 99 and the dealer is alot more then i can afford but found a Beck and Arnley unit which is about half the price as the Toyota unit. Any advice is greatly appreciated…I do wish you were local to me as i would happily pay for your top notch service! Thanks for all you do do to show how things should be done. It is great seeing a clean survivor car getting lots of love:-)

The same is here in Bulgaria. Everybody technician is in hurry – fast, fast, go on and then in less than month….again with problems.

Even more interest to some, and is not widely published , new cars from the last decade or so came from the factory with some sort of recording device, that will record seat belt usage, braking force etc and some even record locations where I been to. I want to know where this black box is in my car , start with 2015 Camrys. It is much more useful info than past mechanic poor workmanship. I just changed my trans fluid , I had to use the battery to get a left right level, and eyeball the front to back height. More fluid came back out the drain than I expected, so I am still not sure about the level of trans fluid, but the car drove and shifted OK , I needed that damned dip stick. I will have to go through rechecking again. That means jacking up all 4 wheels and over filling it.

There is also a difference between a mechanic and a parts replacer! Sure you can buy a new module but can you solder the connection that failed so thats its back to original for a fraction of the price?

Car Nut (brother) Thank you for bringing all this to public attention but unfortunately the rot has set in 😏Now they cannot get or train the next generation technician. I remember early 90's Toyota was calling for 2 man workshop 🤪one service the other diagnosis 🤡 Volvo come up with shift work (you take other the job half way through)🤡 I have seen friends leave BMW, Volvo, Porsche, Mercedes , Toyota, etc (The Dogs BoL" " cks) to become builders, gardeners etc 😥One actually took home the TCCS from a supra and cured the HOT soak fuel problem🥳 in his bedroom😲His wife was very understanding! 😂🤣

My sister passed away 2days after her covid shot. Her car went to a family member who looked at maintenance record from Seattle Honda who f___ over my (dead) sister quite a few times.
Dear Seattle Honda service manager, you are lucky I live elsewhere or you'd be limping for the rest of your life.

Hello Sir! Do you recommend a hybrid Corolla to get a rust undercoat protection?
    Does it void some warranty?

    Hope it will notice.

    Thank you sir
