    My mom had a brand new 82' Pontiac La Mons that did the same thing (ie the car would just stop running randomly). Despite having taken the car to multiple mechanics, no one ever found out the problem. It's inability to run got so bad that the vehicle had to be junked just after six years. It's a pity they didn't have scan tools back then.

    Low priced redesigned replacement part is no accident. It's a PR move to prevent widespread complaint possibility and expensive forced recall. Not the first time a manufacturer has done this.
