Yeah well – electricity to recharge whatever kind of energy storage system, when the electricity can be provided by the sun or hydroelectric dams or millions of trained hamsters – whatever is necessary to get off oil dependence so that we aren't all guilty of allowing foreign leaders to oppress the free press by ASSASSINATING REPORTERS – just to keep gasoline prices low – I'm all for it. If global warming is increasing the destruction power of hurricanes and if using less fossil fuels helps alleviate natural disasters and prevents Texas from freezing over again and again and again… why not go in that direction?
Those batteries probably caught fire due to the cooling system not being pushed high enough during recharge sessions, which really should only require a software update … but some "executives" were probably afraid of all the complaints they knew they would get when people realized the cooling fans were suddenly sucking an extra 20% out of the charging cycles.
But the first few generations of internal combustion engines were a freaking joke and not many people back then wanted to replace horse-drawn carriages and electric trolleys, so … small improvements are how innovation happens. (Can you imagine owning a horse and hating the new-fangled automobiles? That's what electric naysayers are doing.)
The future is super capacitors
We never should have replaced horses. Everything was perfect back then. A bit smelly and messy, but … perfect.
With the announcement of GM planning to convert all models to electric in a decade or so, they are only signaling their own doom. Mary Barra is only finishing what Roger Smith started.
85thousand of those stupid cars dang batteries will never beat petro !
Electric cars are really for people who can spend more just for the sake of the environment. People who are wealthy, have a solar system at home to charge their car. That makes sense then. Else ordinary people are better off with the gas.

Lwe have 3 electric cars from 3 different brand we have not had any issues. Just purchase electric car from companies that develop for electric cars not ICE cars with batteries.
We are going to bury the future generations in battery trash, maybe they can use all the lithium to treat all the depression this would cause.
Electric autos are just a transition to Hydrogens cars. Mechanics will be a job of the past …
