The button actually (saves) your transmission.
When you demand power from your car with the button OFF there is a massive hard kickdown. Bad for clutches.
When button is on, transmission shifts earlier saving you from those hard kick downs especially when towing.
Once I get up to 80 miles per hour I put my car's transmission into R for racing.
I drove my mom's car with the ECT on for a few thousand miles when I first started driving, because I had it detailed, and they must have bumped the button turning it on.
I couldn't figure out why her pokey 4-cyl Rav4 suddenly became a high revving screamer. It didn't make it any faster, but it sounded like it, haha.
So like Tow/Haul mode in a pick-up….?
