My first guess was the Thing, but to be fair, it had the same advantages of the bug in terms of an easily owner maintained and serviced vehicle – with a Spartan body, if I am not mistaken…
Hey Scotty, was the 1994 Mercedes Benz SL320 a good car
I changed the entire 4 air suspension shocks on our Toyota Landcruiser Prado Grande’. It was NOT that expensive, however I do know genuine MercedesBenz or Audi are VERY expensive.
Then again some people (high income earners) might say that’s not too bad.
I know that if you treat the suspension correctly and do not abuse the car, the genuine Toyota air suspension will last a LONG TIME.
Our 2007 Prado only had a slight leak from one in 7 years. The other might have had more life in them, it’s just that I wanted them all done together at the same time, so I don’t have a hassle of changing them every time one starts to fail. We both the Prado at 4 years old and 100,000 klms.
Now she is 11 years old and has done 297,000 klms.
It is a VERY VERY reliable vehicle (if treated correctly AND looked after).
The worst cars Volkswagen ever made were the 411/412 series.
I call BS on the automatic transmission falling apart in the Beetle The automatic transmission in the Beetle is exactly the same as in the Golf and Jetta and with proper maintenance, it will cruise to 250,000 to 300,000 miles. The 2.0 liter 4 cylinder (8 valve) VW engine is not only the most reliable VW engine, but also one of the most reliable in the world. That 2.0 engine is also found in the Beetle. However, there are some plastic components and other bits and pieces in the Beetle that are problematic compared to the Jetta and Golf due to its design, but nothing terrible or expensive to repair.
The A4 Beetle was one of the worst volkswagens ever made, for sure. If you ever want to have a heart attack, look up how much it costs to change a timing belt in one of those.
My car has no manifolds the pipes bolt right to the head. 3.6 pentastar Avenger. Quick little car but sadly the tranny is junk. Done had to replace a torque converter at 70k miles just out of warranty.
