Should forget the beetle and find a cheaper older Honda, you'll get way more out of it and frankly they are just better cars, especially if it's not his kinda car to begin with.

Air suspension is good while its working. When it goes out, you will get yourself in a veeeery bad situation. Driving will be pain in a rear, because every bump will damage your car and your budget. Or driving wont be even possible, because your wheel will be touching wheel well. Every ride with air suspension will be a lottery. Especially if its USED car. I had two 5 series (e39) bmws with air suspension. On the first one I changed air spring 3 times in 6 months ON THE SAME SIDE (passenger side). So it was clear, that something was wrong there. All air springs had hole in the same place. I changed air suspension for regular springs and there was no problems further. I sold that car and new owner drives it around for like 3 years now without any problems. And second bmw also started to leak air on the same side as first bmw. I also changed to regular springs and sold that damn car. On older bmws like e53, e39, e61 its easy job. Just lower the rear axle and put your new springs in. If youre just replacing air bag, its even easier job. It can be done in 60 minutes on both sides. Comfort doesnt change, some will state other opinion and dont believe them. New regular springs are better than old air springs. And the most important thing, your car will become more stable with new regular springs. It wont wobble around while cornering.
