The Mk6 Golf GTI seems pretty dang reliable. Other than the DSG transmission they’re actually pretty cheap to maintain and fix too.

I have a 07 VW Rabbit 5 manual bought new with 200,000 and I would buy another. Hardly anything went wrong. Now at 200,000 it needs a A/C compressor & original clutch feels good. No oil burning at all, Mobil 1 changed @ every 5,000 miles.

My 03 GTI is running great at 161,000 miles because virtually everything on it has been replaced. Lol. Transmission, water pump, timing belt, ignition coils every year, head gasket (twice), clear coat has come off. But, I still make it from A to B ( most of the time).

The Toyota gt86..cheaper,a bit slower but just as fun and much more reliable
