Dealerships are known as the Stealership
Hey Scotty,
My Bolt does not require any maintenance. So, I fired my mechanic!😂
Meanwhile, a Toyota dealer in my city charges $185/hour and attempted to charge me $500 to replace a $10 part. I did it myself in 4 hours.
I was a dealership mechanic for 25 years and spent the first 15 years of my career with independent shops. When the independants stopped paying commission and went to an hourly wage I started working for the dealerships because I could get paid paid vacation time, paid holidays, and health insurance that I could not get with the independents. Nowadays dealership technicians are paid in dollars per flag hour. And only amount to 25 to 30% of what the dealership charges per hour for labor. It's no wonder there is a shortage of qualified technicians now.
Yep
Your're totally right Scotty.
There are a bunch of things we can do to our cars. I never though I could do such things as cleaning MAF sensor and throttle body.
I've learned not to trust shops anymore and because of that I do the basic maintenance myself with quality parts and I make sure it's done correctly.
Even the Small Independent Repair Shops are getting outrageous Scotty Sir!
