The serpentine belt powers the car accessories like air conditioning, alternator, power steering, fan and water pump. There’s three types of serpentine belt wear, pilling, glazing and abrasion. Pulley wear will cause your pulley to squeak. A worn out pulley bearing or a worn spring in the tension pulley can also cause squeaking.     Oh wow I use to do the old soap trick and WD-40 but yea cheaper in long run just do it right fix it right saves money in long run

    I hooked up my windshield washer hose to spray on my belt. Problem solved. I also use it to fill up my drink with whiskey

    I just used to use black treacle on v belts, those used to get polished rubber which reduced friction. Treacle was good for that because it restored grip to the belt and doubled the life. Those sticky belt spray products were for older belt types and did a similar job. The newer types wear out differently so not so good as mentioned. The worst thing i used to hear was people spraying wd40 on the belts to prevent squeaking. The idiots that did that didn't understand it lubricated the belt, and stopped the alternated from charging usually. Very dumb idea that one. Same as using wd40 near electrics. It breaks silicon rubber down, and will destroy ht leads fast. So never try to prevent moisture getting into the electrics with it. Not as big a problem on newer cars though now…

    I've got a 99 Tahoe, old body style. When the humidity was high or it rained, and the truck sat, the belt would squeak even with a new belt. I found that the crank pulley was caked up with grit and had a glossy look to it. I took a wire brush to it, while it was running, (with the clutch fan off) and knocked all the crud off it. Stopped the squeaks!
    P.s. HOLD ON TO THE BRUSH! It will get away from you.
