You may think you’re embarking on a budget car restoration and end up spending way more money than expected. So what should you budget if you’re restoring an old car? Part of that depends on the type of build you’re doing and how much of the work you’ll do on your own. Of course, if you want a wazoo custom build that you’re paying someone else to do – that’s a different story that can get you into the more-expensive-than-a-nice-house territory. But if you’re planning on doing a DIY classic car restoration, this car couple will walk you through the mild restomod build they did to Ethan’s 1957 Ford restoration.

They’ll break down the costs involved in each of the following sections:
0:00 Introduction to Ethan’s 1957 Ford build
1:52 Brakes & Wheels
3:57 Suspension & Steering
6:27 Engine & Exhaust
8:48 Drivetrain
11:30 Interior & Exterior
15:27 Expendables (Cleaning & Paint materials, Car Fluids, etc)
20:43 BONUS – Ethan & Kristin have a drag race face-off

So how much did it add up to? You’ll have to watch to find out!

If you’ve built a car in your garage, comment with what you built and spent – we’d love to hear more stories. Then be sure to like and subscribe to catch more of Ethan and Kristin as they work together on making their hot rods “Extra Good:”

I wish I could have 10gs in mine I have 16gs in mine and have another 10 to put into it but you have a nice car though guess it's how much you want to spend ultimately.

This is so cool. It makes classic car builds make sense. It’s like a weapon build brake down. Now your speaking my language

I have a 1965 Impala SS and it's rust free. I paint the car 11 years ago, and all I need is a body work and a paint job again but body shops wants to charge me $25,000 just for body and paint job? I don't know why they want to charge me like if I am asking for a frame off restoration when I am not.

If you did that for 10k you did a great job. You also exercised a lot of restraint.
