Because of most U.S. automakers getting out of the car market and moving to mostly trucks within the next few years, Toyota has basically won the car market and is letting it go to their head. Even though IMO, their "matching" the torque curve to their manual transmission gears ratios has been abysmal at best. I drove hundreds of different model years over my course of working at an auto auction. The engine "bogging" between lower gears (one too high, another too low) was a PITA. JMO.

Hight Quality Toyota sell less than good looking Mazda, so Toyota will go for good looking.

Mazda's were pretty solid and reliable cars in the 80s and 90s [minus the Millenia]. You can't go wrong with, say, a '96 626 or a '99 Protege. It wasn't until the 2000s when they began getting cheap and using many Ford parts like engines, trannys and such that their reliability and quality took a dive. Though the new Mazda's show some promise of being much better designed and engineered.

Cars are money pits its just how wide do you wanna open that wallet. Toyota and honda will wise up when the next market correction comes because manufacturing is coming to a craw next year if the economy slows. Customers thirst for expensive cars will deminish and reality will set in and auto makers will have more time to focus on quality.

What rubbish! Mazdas are just as reliable as Toyotas or Hondas!

Hey Scotty, why Toyota is not so popular in Europe, and are they not so much better made here because they are produced in Europe (not all models).
