    A GM engineer told me that they were for two purposes…to keep the engine noise down because they have to meet noise emission standards, and for pedestrian protection so when you run into a person and they crush in the hood they don't get speared by sharp things poking up from the engine.

    The only one i can think that has a function is the engine cover on the new lexus rx. Its designed so the air that comes thru the radiator fans flow over it to cool the turbo behind the engine

    The purpose is isolating noise from engine.. and to prevent the paint on the hood from bubbling and peeling cuz now the newer cars don’t have insulation under the hood just regular sheet metal

    I changed the transmission fluid on my Toyota Camry, fluid change was extremely easy, spent more time taking off and putting back on the plastic Shields. Do you really need this crap.
