This is one of the questions I get asked the most so I decided to make a video of my response. Should you get into auto repair? Good question, it really depends …

Well, damn. I'm kind of down and out now. Really felt like I wanted to do this. Now I'm second guessing. I personally love working on cars, and I get that I wouldn't have as much time to work on mine, but that's fine. I think of work as work, if I'm having fun that's great, and then when I come home and see my project, that's the better part. You see the progression from beginning to end with a vehicle. You work on cars to pay for yours at home. Maybe it's because I'm not jaded.

I know in wrestling, I knew when I was getting paid I took it as a job. I went out, did a character, got the (very little) pay, and went home. When I got home and went to my friends house, we would still wrestle on his ring and that was the fun, trying new things and letting loose.

Maybe there's hope for me yet.

To add to. I am a forklift mechanic. There are some days that i don't want to touch my car…but for the most part, i have realized that industrial work gives me the pay i need to survive, and i enjoy the engine work. I also get to work on my car there on the weekend for enjoyment, i like the guys i work with. At the same time who am i to dwindle your passion? Diesel is the way to go!

The Acura dealership that I work at has been slow for almost 3 years now. Been averaging 80 to 90+ hours a 2 week pay period at the shop, my checks on the average have only been in the 60 hour range. So every pay period I'm standing around for 20 to 30 hours not paid. The only reason I stayed is because the company had a lease program. The lease is up this March, and I'm done with this career.

ETCG1 you forget to mention going out on occasions where family is and your dressed in decent clothes and a family member wants you to take a look at their car …or how about people who want you to diagnose their car over the phone…ohh and family want their work free should I go on..

SAME with detailing detailers dont really detail their cars the way you want to since the dealer detailers are under immense pressure to get your car done quickly since some of them get paid PER CAR meaning that making your car ultra prefect loses them money because that time they could have had on another car. YOU are not the only customer in dealership so if a detailer spends too much time on a car 300 Cars could pile up. meaning that they dont get to eat since they MUST please you. everybody is the dealership is screwed over not even the general manager gets away from not having breaks and not eating at times. specially when you are one the highest selling dealerships in "x" place. having too many customers is a bad thing if you want the best service go on a weekday to a dealership with weak sales. NOW high end independent detailing shops are MUCH BETTER since you get paid per hour and work less hours and can afford to get intimate with the customers car almost like its your own.
