Where can i get a color match paint for my car mixed in a can?
Do I need to buff it after clear coat??? Please let me know
Absolute amateur..EVERYTHING WRONG ABOUT THIS REPAIR
1. 24 INCHES? Why not scuff the entire car and your neighbours whilst your at it? He's spray painting an area of approx 5 inches by 3….extent that area approx 5 inches around the area.
2. After cleaning the area keep your grubby fingers off it,,,goodness….hes touching the surface with his hands…..can you blame the paint reacting? You have natural oils that you leave on surfaces from your greasy fingertips.
3. Explain feathering in all the edges…..
4. Use a 3D scotch pad that allows you to see highs and lows/ defects.
5. Masking off use folded back masking tape technique to prevent hard lines.
6. Once you apply the lacquer/ clear coat…. use wet and dry 3000 grit paper to sand back the orange peel affect and buff with 3G compound and wax to entire panel
reading the comments here is quite disheartening. I plan on doing this (almost no experience with paint, limited automotive experience) on a 14-year-old car that has been dinged, scuffed and scratched pretty much everywhere in small patches. The quote I got from an indy was between $800 to $1000 and the car itself is worth maybe 5k all together. So for all the experts here that found the numerous faults, how would you do this differently, because It makes no sense to me to pay 20% of the car's cost to repair the paint.
The orange peel though
