Respect for the front license plate
I had this in my car and turns out it was bad ignition coils
my cvt was once failed to move and the indicator turn from D to -. I played with the gear knob up and down through all the gear, didnt work. it was in the middle of the night and 100km to my uncle's home which I visited. i saw a wiring socket near the gearbox and i open and snap it again, and it worked. maybe just my lucky day. few days later i bring it to the service center, do the electronic test and there was 1 gear selector device in the gearbox not working well. changed it for 150 dollars plus the installation, and it worked fine. so glad that it is not the gearbox.
If this happens with a Ford Fusion check the shifter cable the rubber grommet that keeps it in place wears out and will disconnect from the transmission
And then there is the problem with so many newer cars that you can’t check the fluid yourself. Then it costs a fortune to have someone else check it. Not sure whose genius idea it was to make transmissions without a dip stick.
Stop the engine, leave the car and look under the car. And if you see red or nearly black fluid leaking or a puddle, don't drive the car. That is transmission fluid coming out of seal
How many miles on that Lexus Scotty
Pretty sure the tcm does not control the initial engagement into low, just up shift points, same for reverse.
