My dad had a 2015 Sonic, but it wasn't a turbo and it was only about a year old then so it ran fine
Timing chain problems at 88k miles? Still better than 65K miles
We need more honest mechanics like you and more honest people period
I guess nobody should ever buy a car ever unless it's Scotty approved.
That car is ready for the junkyard
wow! I used to work on cars in the old days, we didn't have YouTube back then, but man oh man, Scotty can write a book with all his knowledge : How to be a smart mechanic. too bad we didn't have Scotty Youtube channel back then.
The chain tensioner under the valve cover is loose. Those fasteners like to back out.
VVT and cam shaft timing can cause the knock and ECU to try to fix a problem that is not there. Not sure I'd jump into a timing chain unless the Sonic is still using belts, but you would still have to tear into the engine to replace or repair. If the car wasn't maintained properly ( dirty oil or wrong oil can cause all sorts of problems) the VVT control can and will mess up timing and there again worse at idle. Cam position sensors are mag pickup and generally more reliable. Timing chain idle pully are also notorious for failing.
I’ll admit it. I have scan tool envy… 🤣
rev up your little turbocharged loose camchained 1000 dollar upcoming repair engines!!
