Sports cars, mini vans, and SUVs have higher fatalities too. The same argument could be applied to those as well. It's not just an EV issue. Safety should be first in design. But some manufacturers will cheap out EV or not. So put your money in a reputable brand EV or ICE.
As far as EV being good or bad, personally I saw this gas crisis coming a few years ago. In 2006 we hit what is called peak oil. That means in 2006 we got all the easy to get oil. Each year after 2006 it has got more and more expensive to extract and process each barrel of oil. Looking at the data I knew gas prices were going to skyrocket and never come back down. So here in Northern PA a few years ago I bought a used Chevy Bolt Premier EV 2017 with 35k miles for $16k. It has a 280 mile range and if I don't abuse the battery should get 500k+ miles out of it. At the time it saved me a LOT of money on gas. But I also liked that my money paying electric was going back into the US economy instead of Saudi Arabia and over seas wars. However, I am also aware as long as the grid is dependent on fossil fuels the electric prices are going up and up more expensive forever too. Prices for solar panels and batteries have fallen through the floor in the last few years. So I spent $1000 on 3.4 kW of new surplus commercial solar panels and installed them in my back yard. If you can learn to DIY you can save most of the $$ cost! A few months ago bought 3.4kW of surplus commercial solar panels for $1000. 15.6kWh of LiFePo4 batteries (with BMS), a charge controller, and a pure sine wave inverter ran me another $4000. Installed it and wired it myself (to code). Should pay for itself in 1-2 years and then it will be saving me money year after year for decades. As the world destabilizes I also get the security that if there is a war or natural disaster I'll still have long term power for my family in a grid out situation. I understand a EV is not for everyone. But for me buying a affordable used EV was a step in energy independence from gouging energy cartels and safety for my family. All for less than the cost of a new car…
Now let's talk about infrastructure and all those fossil fuels it takes to make one EV vs one traditional vehicle.
We aren't ready for everyone to own these yet.

Now imagine parking your EV in your garage, your family is inside sleeping and the lithium battery fails internally. How fast can vacate the house?
