A Toyota master diagnostic technician shows you simple Newer car DIY inspection on your car after it’s been serviced by the dealership. Also latest Camry Hybrid and Avalon Hybrid fan filter service for the hybrid battery.

This video started out in life as a simple and quick how to replace a 2018+ Camry Hybrid and 2019+ Avalon hybrid fan filter service and some simple tips on DIY checks while you’re at it. But to my surprise I find serious mistakes by the dealership that just serviced this car 2 weeks ago under the Toyota Care program.

I always encourage you to do your own car maintenance or at least understand it and be on top of it. Even if you are not very handy with cars learning how to do the most basic maintenance on your car could save you a lot of money and you can easily start seeing if your “trusted” mechanic is doing things well or not.

Dealerships are not all equal. And even within good dealerships there are bad mechanics. Always double check the basics which are easily missed. And as I always recommend get to know your dealership on a first name basis that way you know who you’re dealing with and who exactly is working on your car.

Yes my brother works at a toyota dealership, they NEVER replace the carbon filter they only replace it with a cheap filter. They wont even give the mechanics the right to grab the filter if they try at the parts place. Been trying to help him report and get out of that dealership. Thats one of many unethical practices they put the customers through and the mechanics

I have a 19 Tacoma v6 and the dipstick is really difficult to read the oil level I found on one side of the dipstick the oil level will be way past the mark and on the other side of it it's just below it is there any kind of trick to getting a better reading than that

Brought my 2018 Corolla into the Toyota Dealership last week for an Oil Change and Multi Point Inspection. I knew the battery was in bad shape already. I couldn’t leave the key in the on position for more than 2 minutes without it draining enough to cause the engine to stumble when starting. But the Dealership marked it down in great health. Then I was lucky to even be able to get my Corolla started as it was obvious they left the key on for some time during their supposed inspection, as the engine dumbed badly during start up, and even caused the clock to reset.

Yep there’s many good reasons to learn to DIY car maintenance. Our local Toyota dealership service department has been great but I, still, check their work. (Trust but verify!!)

I got overfill once at dealership as well. It was about 1/4 of water bottle. Can't wait for them to fix, I did correct by myself.

Exactly why I don't use the 'free' maintenance period. My 4R skid plate and oil covers together have 9 bolts and 7 plastic fasteners- and my skid plate is coated in fluid film, so it's kind of disgusting and slippery to remove. I don't trust they would use the same care I use while removing the plates for 1 hr or 1.5 hr labor block that the dealership is looking to have complete in 15-20 minutes.

When I got my 2021 Sienna it also came overfilled with engine oil. I then changed the oil after the break in period.
