I DO work on my own vehicles, but there are some things I won't do. That's when I bring it to my mechanic. Having some knowledge of cars certainly helps when you bring it to your mechanic as well. I think it helps them and speeds up the repair. You want to be honest with them, for sure.
right on Scotty, my 2002 Mazda MPV had transmission last summer but my mechanic says he won;t fix it cuz that model's Jatco tranny is problematic. I spent days searching for solution if any and found out the reverse drum/high gear drum can be replaced without removing the tranny. Comes off on the side with the cover removed. I ordered the only 1 used part on ebay for $55 and it works. the reverse started slipping in few weeks. I know why my mechanic don't want the hassle and bad reputation. still runs after 14 months, just don't know how much longer.
Just curious regarding your celica, scotty, cause i want to learn so i CAN work on my car with some competance.
If the shaking stops when you get up to speed, then would it not certainly be the torque converter?
If the tranny is getting old, wouldnt other effects result from that?
The picture of new technology?
You can run for president on this platform Scotty;)
Where’s this mythical and magical honest mechanic you speak of…
I'm a crippled mechanic, so I really can't do a lot of things anymore… was a mechanic in the Army (63S), but none of that applies to a car really… I went to college for 2 years for Automotive Technology… I know a lot about older cars. I don't want a newer car, unless I lease it, because I don't think I could work on the damn thing.
You tell him up front or he will find out the long way then charge you the labor fees. Don't be afraid to admit your mistake.
I like how scotty says, "Next Ques John" in his live vids!
Im just going to tell the mechanic that scotty kilmer is my dad to give him a scare.
