In my 2016 sonata, I did replace one of those absorbed glass mat batteries, with a high quality regular battery. Saving myself $100. The reason I did that is the up trim models of my vehicle have tons of electronics and safety systems that can use the benefits and the longevity of a glass mat battery. However I have the basic car with none of those special systems, and it's been working fine for 2 years without any problems on a regular lead acid battery of the proper size. So yes if you have safety systems for systems that are running 24 hours protecting your car, I can see getting one of the new glass mat batteries. But if it's just the most basic version of that model with nothing special, I've had no issues with the regular lead acid battery that is in my car.

If you don’t buy original battery in BMW you might as well take your car to junk yard

Question: According to this video, I can’t replace an AGM with a lead acid battery… but can I replace a lead acid with an AGM?

Can you upgrade from a lead-acid to an absorbed glass mat battery?

You can program most cars to a given battery. Yeah not like the old school buy replace and forget. You’ll be lucky to get 5-7 years out of a battery.
