I think if you loose the master key sometimes that has resulted in having to change the engine management system
Mind you not all dealerships are franchised by the same companies and the ones out in the sticks can be a lot cheaper because they have less overheads

Keys for my 2015 Equinox at the dealer is $500+ I go to ACE Hardware and it is around $100
