Any Ford F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Mountaineer, Super Duty, Expedition, Mark LT, or Navigator with the 4.6, 5.4, or 6.8 3 valve, DO NOT BUY BECAUSE IF THE TIMING CHAINS OR CAM PHASERS GO BAD, MOST SHOPS WILL ONLY PUT REMAN ENGINES IN THOSE VEHICLES BECAUSE THEY HAD RETURNS ON THEM. Stay away from any Ford 3 valve V8 or V10. Run away from these Fords. Earlier 3 valves had spark plugs that will get stuck in the threads because the idiotic engineers at Ford thought 2 piece spark plugs were a good idea. If you compared a Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra and Ford F-150 from 2006 with the most popular engines out there. For GM it was the 5.3 Vortec. For Ford, it was a 5.4 3 valve Triton. Back in 2006, the Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra was actually more reliable than the Ford because of it’s reliable LS based 5.3 pushrod V8 engine that is known to last a really long time and there’s a reason why LS swaps are popular for racing but the Ford had a better interior. The 3 valve Triton was a nightmare for both Ford techs and owners. The worst fleet engines ever made after 2000 from the big three American manufacturers was the 3 valve Ford Triton V8 and V10, Chrysler PowerTech 3.7 and 4.7, Ford transversely mounted 3.5, 3.5 Ecoboost, and 3.7 V6, the Chrysler 2.7 V6, and the General Motors High Value 3.5 and 3.9 V6 and the High Feature/Alloytec 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, and 3.6 V6. These engines are really bad. The best were the GM Vortec V6 and V8, GM 3800 series 2 and 3 V6, Ford 2 valve Triton, and the Chrysler Hemi.
DON'T RETIRE, JUST TAKE ON THE FUN EASIER JOBS AND CONSULT YOUR CUSTOMERS IF THEY WANT TO DO BIG JOBS LIKE IF IT'S WORTH IT. YOU WILL MISS WORKING ON CARS…
Hey Scottie. I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 4.7 V8. Recently I noticed that rust has developed on the exterior trim piece that's under the doors. You know, the piece that attaches to the front and rear wheel wells. The rust is on the front side of the trim piece on both sides of the vehicle.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?? It has 136,000 Original Miles as it was my mother's since new and has the original Platinum exterior Color also. Thanks for any help since I am a newbie to 4X4 ownership and a fairly new viewer of your channel.
