Yeah they phased out 2 cycle engines too. Then came fuel injection and oil injection. Evinrude and bombardier still met emissions for outboards while mercury went 4cycle and very heavy.

My brother had the Mazda Rotory engine, it blew up. They replaced the motor with a new one and it blew up. He no longer has a rotory engine 😷😷😷
