Why synthetic? It’s very expensive. If someone drives only 3-4 thousand miles a year, would it make sense to use a thick synthetic oil? I figured it might even be a better idea to avoid it. Now someone who drives a lot, I can see maybe getting synthetic. I prefer to just 1-2 times a year with under 4000 miles use, changing itbwith conventional.

Letting your engine warm up and cool down properly and changing oil ever 10,000km (I only use Mobil 1 0W40) already goes a long way.

Got over 300,000 miles on my Impala. Why? Always change motor and tranny fluid regularly – drive it nicely – and it has the 3.8L engine.

Wear and tear is a normal process, same with the body and mind of a human being, with furniture, etc… The only difference that you can make is by either accelerating or slowing down the process.

Should I switch to synthetic oil in my 150,000 mile 6 cylinder Jeep Cherokee ? I thought it could cause problems.
