Scotty, I agree with you that Brand "T" has poor engine designs. However, Brand "T" does use tapered piston skirts for heat expansion which I've seen create engine noise, and also vehicles using the balance shafts are quite noisy at times. Is it characteristic, Yes. Is it a good design, absolutely not. Yet they are very reliable just the same. I have to say Brand "T" because I use to work for them, but can't say their name….
My Lexus IS350 has direct injection and it makes ticking noise. It is normal for this type of car.

I have a 2014 Corolla and the touchscreen doesn’t work, the dealer said that it has to be replaced (at my high cost!) with a used touchscreen with the same problem/defect without a warranty!! Videos on YouTube have gotten over 100k views talking about defective radios by Toyota. Toyotas may last, but their tech sucks and their service sucks too. I’ll be buying a Honda or Mazda and wouldn’t buy a Toyota until they own up and fix their defects.
I was the biggest Toyota fan before this horrible experience 😬
