I was just saying the other day…They put so much unnecessary crap electronics and controls in a new car that cost a fortune. But then they have to save a few cents by making the inside and outside door handles plastic. They really take the consumer for a complete moron, and people buy right into it

I hear ya Pete, my wife dented the rocker panel (2017 honda) with her high heels getting out. (she's short & petite). The hood & front bumper will move in/out when you hand wash it (car was purchased new). New vehicles are expensive & run well,, but are over engineered & try to save a penny at our expensive…… OK I'm off my soapbox…….
You can't turn it off either. Once you hit a certain speed the doors lock. When you stop you have to unlock the doors to get out. You should be able to disable door lock but you can't. You should be able to set it to unlock at a slow speed automatically or at stop. You can't. All am saying we are paying for the vehicle we should have the option if we want the doors to lock or not. Years ago we didn't have automatic door locks and I never locked my door till I got out of it. Another free right took away from us.

I call BS on this. An impact to any latch is likely to cause it to jam. Yes there is more crap to remove to get to the mechanism, but fundamentally a latch is mechanical.
And, thicker metal does not necessarily mean stronger metal.
So maybe when these people that see us guys working and restoring our older vehicles and are so quick to throw out comments like he works on junk may want to sit back and think about what they are saying. At least we're not driving those computerized factory made ready to go coffins where you can't even get out of the vehicle if your in a bad accident without someone smashing out the windows for you to get your behind out of there. I have heard electric cars are no better, with all of the high voltages.
