    I often see, particularly on older cars owners cut the steel pressure feed line from the fuel pump to carby & put in a plastic fuel filter & rubber hoses. The cut pipe ends are not barbed or bulged so the rubber hoses can slide off & the plastic fuel can split leading to pressurized fuel pumping over the hot engine.
