I use spray wax as well when I'm too lazy to use the liquid or paste wax. The spray wax or waterless wash and wax sprays take only a few minutes to do. I would say the spray wax doesn't last as long. Probably 2-3 weeks. But it's convenient.

I laugh. As a retired body man/painter I know that paint doesn't "dry out and crack" as Scotty seems to suggest. Modern clear coat is a cross linking polymer that is chemically and dimensionally stable…i.e. will not shrink and crack or expand and crack either. I say this while living up in Canada where the temperature can range from -40 F in winter to 80 or even 90 F in the summer. My advice is simple…wash, and wax your vehicle because dirt/salt is the real enemy. When dirt builds up even in the form of dust, it can trap and hold moisture against painted or bare steel parts, and eventually they will rust . Some parts of your car are designed to let water flow through, such as doors, that's what those drain holes at the inside bottom seam are for. I like Scotty, I just think he's commenting on something that is not in his main area of expertise, so he was misinformed…sometimes I do that to when I talk about mechanical things, and then my brother, the mechanic comes and laughs at me.

A Celica, a Matrix, and a Camry. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Scotty is a Toyota fan.

You forgot to add hawaii as a rust area. My 2006 matrix's roof rusted out inside of 1 1/2 year

Getting the salt off the bottom: hit those puddles.

If you want to stop the rust inside your frame, or door panels, or wheelarches, then simply use ATF, it doesn't damage paint and stops rust from working it's way from the inside out.

Cheaper solution for automotive rust protection paint is using marine coating paints. Four time cheaper than automotive with more salt protection.:)
