Insurance companies be it any are a group that makes $ off YOUR PROBLEMS. The main goal is to "adjust(screw)" you when ever possible.
Not every auction car is junk, but all junk cars are at the auction.
My friend had a whamen with an Opel Corsa smash into his Lada. The Opel got completely demolished and towed away, while the Lada got away with bent fender, bumper, broken grill and punctured radiator. His insurance company said the Lada was "totalled" and didnt give him any money, while the whamen with the Opel got compensation from her company even though the car had to be hauled off. My friend managed to drive his Lada back to his hometown, on its own without being towed. Keep in mind these cars are about the same price on the second hand market, except the Opel's parts are more expensive – which means the insurance company can decide your car is totalled if they feel like it.

My ex banged up my 2000 Isuzu Rodeo back in 2010. Insurance company totaled it. I had it repaired at a body shop. 12 years later, still driving it with 155K miles, and it runs like a top.
Unless you got a car that appreciated then you might come out on top like I did
