So, in another words, if someone hits you and totals your car, your screwed to get it actually replaced. You'll be lucky to have a down payment on another. What a rip off.

Benefits to buying a totaled hail damaged car:
    1. As stated in the video, the damage is cosmetic. If you don't care how the car looks and just need something that runs, it's a great deal. Especially since used cars prices are through the roof right now.
    2. Travel. If you travel to places with high car theft rates or to remote areas, you worry less about your car being stolen. No one will look twice at it for theft. And you fit right in if you travel to disaster areas for work (ex: FEMA worker or insurance adjuster).
    3. It's makes for a great story. ("Yeah, the hail stones were the size of golf balls!")

Well I had a 2001 new model caddy DTS. 4.6. What a junk bought new. It was in the dealer more than driven in days for the first 3 months!!!! I sent a claim in for the lemon law and won it! Good news but listen to this! The folks with the reporting ordered it reviewed by a third party mechanic! He found the engine was defective from improper oil blockage in the motor?? He also wrote all this down on paper but didn’t bother to tell me the defective engine should NOT be driven!!!! Well I did not get that info the day I drove it to work. I was on a Chicago freeway when the cars motor took off about 70 like someone put the cruise control on. I could not get that car under control! I pulled it on the exit ramp and tried shutting the car off the steering locked so that didn’t work. Panicking I stood on the brake peddle Then. Screamed for god to help me and down shifted it would not go into park. Electronic control didn’t allow for severe down from forth it was about second when the car left the exit ramp. It lost its trans cover on the first curb and the oil pan on the second curb. It finally stopped on the north facing road from the south bound exit. It was a four lane road with a green space between. It was considered total by my insurance. Not one dent in the paint mind you. The wheels engine and trans were gone.

The letter arrived the next day stating I should not drive the car???? My insurance was very interested in that letter. GM paid for everything including my deductible and gave extra. I bought a Lexus LS 430 after that. Boy what a difference that was. Dined lucky to have lived.

I bought the SUV for $800 from an SGT it needed a major tune up which I did myself. I had 700 in parts to get it to run right, I was in Austin at a scrap yard buying interior pieces and found all but one. on the way back is when this happened. I got hit driving back from Austin. the woman hit me and ran…. I have progressive insurance, was paid out 3k for a 2003 ford escape with 160k miles, then a week later my insurance asks did I miss any work due to the accident, I said I'm in the army and am in physical therapy they paid me another 1k.

This video made me sad because my beloved Outback was just totaled 😭 luckily it was a comp claim so my deductible was very low and they offered me a very fair ACV. But I just wish I had my car back. 😢
