I will say this much for the Toyota Yaris. It is a fairly safe car to be in an accident in. My exwife's fiance had one and he got T-boned by a guy who was racing around and just blowing through intersections and slammed into his car and nearly knocked him into somebody's livingroom. I mean the car was like 20 yards/meters into the yard of the corner house by the intersection and my exwife's fiance was fine. A bit sore but no serious injuries and that's impressive for somebody driving a subcompact car. So maybe the expense is due to Toyota not phoning it in when it comes to safety.
