Echo and no Yugo or Cricket? Nah, you got it wrong there, Scotty.
My daughters first car was an Echo and I thought was a great little car for her. Never had mechanical issues and what I liked most that her being a novice driver, the field of vision through the front windshield was tremendous.
My family bought a 2004 toyota echo and yes they were super horrible cars "carwise" but it lasted 211k miles in 15 years before the trade in value was $80 more than labor on the transmission. They had great gas mileage for their time and were super reliable, but thats all they had. Other than that they sucked

If you're gonna pick a Maserati, the BiTurbo has to be it. At least the TC was relatively inexpensive to maintain and reliable by comparison due to it being mostly Chrysler. Try and find a running Biturbo which was hideously expensive, slow, and broke down immediately.
And an Echo, really? There are many penalty box cars that have been made over the years. How about a first-gen Hyundai Excel? The thing didn't even have lap seatbelts. Just a bash bar in the dash. The drivetrain was made out of glass and you could break off chunks of the interior like peanut brittle.
