In the late '70's my brother in the UK bought a used DAF CVT saloon. His 'rubber-band' car. Way ahead of its time.
I just hope that manufacturers will not put CVT in all models…..

Right and he's wrong he's right about shutter but the tranny's good the problem is the mounts make them solid because when mounts go out it it puts pressure on the internals of trans and when u fix the mounts u release all the pressure and now there play and it goes out mine I made solid and I am at 400,000 on same motor and tranny and still rollin
The advice of buy stick shift is just not practical. most cars comes cvt now, automatics are disappearing. Stick shift cars even when available is like 5% of total volume for that one model… so good luck finding one. Even the ultimate driving 'money pit' 3 series have no stick now. To tell people buy stick is like telling people to use fountain pen because ball pens don't write as beautiful. Time changes, technology changes.

My 15 corolla has 91k miles on it. Cvt. So far so good.
youre wrong on this..the recall is toyota being a good corporate citizen not because of a major defect, ie in case of a one in a million contingency..cvts have been on dump trucks for about 50 years so im not sure how you could call this new technology.missus has had her 2013 corolla 6 years no issue except ac compressor stopped working and needed to be replaced, now that shocked me!!
