In California they tell the public the high prices are due to low supplies of fuel and that some of the refineries are shut down for maintenance.
There are no pipelines in California and we once had oil wells everywhere.
Even though I don't buy gasoline myself since I ride a bicycle and take the bus and train I still pay more for everything else.
I did get a break on my Train Pass the train company is giving 30% discounts for the next couple of month.
More bad news from Scotty
Two weeks ago gas was 3.97 at my nearest station in Phoenix. Over the last week, it's jumped up to 4.99
Can't wait until the super bowl makes it jump to 5.50
Some years ago (late 90's ) Bill Heard dealerships i took my father's 82 astro van to them when the fan belt would not stay on. Dad told me to take it to them he would pay for it . 670 dollars later i found that the only parts was 2 3/8 shear bolts and yes it was listed on invoice as shear bolts about 7 bucks shop supplies 12 bucks . dad paid I got van back and less that two weeks later the same thing happened . i had a good friend who was a mechanic he told me it was a design to fail thing the plate which mounts all the accessories on front of the engine on one side has two big studs and while on the side where the plate is pulled away from the engile was the 2 shear bolts my friend showed he it took him 10 minuets to use a screw driver and work out the broke off bolts and install 2 steel bolts and i never had any problem with it again , go figure
CA demands a special formula gas, which is so stupid! It's a permit to gouge. So the oil companies say, "OK, but you'll pay more"!
Same in Lost Vegas, extension of Commiefornia.
