Reminds me of my dad’s 59 Beetle he bought just to drive to work in the mid 70’s. It had a radio, but no gas gauge! There was a foot switch to change to a small reserve tank of gas, just enough to make it to the nearest station! Unfortunately, my brothers and I ( in our late teens ) used it on the weekends and it didn’t last very long!

I wish that some of the newer cars are more simple. New cars are too expensive and has too much electronic stuff to have to repair it later.

Believe those 2-bar bumpers didn’t appear till 1969. My friend has a 1972 Thing he wants to refurbish on the East coast; reply if you know a source

WOW. That was the cleanest 1961 bug I have ever seen. I hope the ocean air in Florida doesn't ruin it.

Nice ,an original Beetle in Maine is a summer car (no heat).

    32MPG, I drive a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JKU and I'm happy when I get 14 but I average around 11~13

VWs seem to make people giddy, me included. (I own two, but water cooled, and one is a diesel)

Yes they were simple with no electronics etc. but Scotty please tell the truth. Back in my hippie dippie days in the 60's, several of my friends that I rode with had the so-called dependable beetles. They were not dependable as you say every one of my friends had breakdowns and engine problems. with the exception of one friend, they were money pits. Two of my friends were mechanics! They had to be to own a beetles.
