On testing off-road, the Suzuki jimny with a 1.3 petrol engine performed better than a land rover defender. Don’t know if you have those in the US. Just an FYI.

Last summer I had the opportunity to work on my uncles 1969 land rover. He purchased it from a guy in South Africa then shipped it to Alaska where he lived. Served him well for many years. But we they retired to the lower 48 it was pushed to the way side and became a glorified shed. When I got there I had to clean out decades worth of boxes, dust, and bees nests. After a few weeks of tinkering I was able to get it started and was able to take my uncle on a drive. Although he has early stages of dementia he still knew the truck like the back of his hand and didn't hold back from scolding me when I stalled the dang thing. Was a great experience and was happy to give him one last ride.
