The problem with reviews — you can pay a company to get 100's of people to give you 10 out of 10 …. there are companies that do it at a very cheap price !!!!

I like that he jeep tus place very very clean and organized, I'm pretty sure he reflects that on his work.

Every time I took my car for a yearly inspection there would be something wrong. All I do is have the mechanic show me. If it's obvious, I'll have them fix it as long as the price is fair. But if it seems sketchy, I'll tell them I don't have the money right now and just get a quote then do research later. Most of the time if it seems easy I just do the work myself if they find something.

I've been going to the same mechanic for 20 years. He's always gotten me in and out quickly and does good work. What cemented me as a loyal customer was when I was 19 years old and living roughly two hours away, I had a break under my car and I took it to the local garage near the college campus. A pipe was dragging and they told me it was going to be something like $765 to fix. I was a poor college student at the time and didn't have that kind of money. I'd just spent it all on books. They tied the pipe up for me so it wouldn't drag and I could come back when I was ready to have it fixed.

Rather then go back there, I drove the nearly two hours to my regular mechanic. He fixed the problem for $25.

In more recent memory, a few years back I purchased a used car from a dealer. I took issue with the rust on one of the parts and they said that should it become a problem within any time of the car's life, they'd replace it at their cost of the parts and labor without any mark up. I should've pressed harder, but we were in a rough spot. Anyhow, a year or two down the road during a routine inspection, my mechanic noticed that the rust on that part had gotten bad enough that they needed to be replaced to pass inspection. He gave me a quote and I told him that I was going to check with the dealer considering what they had told me previously. The dealer honored what they had stated, but what I didn't know was that their labor rate was twice that of my mechanic. I made sure to get a quote before I allowed them to fix it. The difference in cost between them and my mechanic was $20. I ended up going back to my mechanic and having him do the work. Wasn't about to take business away from my mechanic over $20 measly bucks.

So the advice I come away with from all this is: there are good mechanics, bad mechanics, and crooked mechanics. Ask your friends if they know a good mechanic. Don't pay too much for work on your car. So at the end of the video I know as much as I did before I watched it.

Yeah, my dad worked with one of those clean mechanics. He said he was technically proficient and did do the job, but he rarely ever beat book and that doesn't make the department manager happy when you are working in a dealership. My dad was so much happier when he left there and worked for a small independent shop. Word of mouth got him business, and he didn't have to worry about book rates.
