Will this work with a MIG welder?

I remember de-gassing lead acid batteries back in HS in auto shop (that's what we called it). I never knew the maintenance-free batteries could be opened up like that. Thanks. 👍

    Didn't you do this before?
    Someone did.
    Long time ago.

Excellent advice, Hoss! Two things I always do is get the top of the battery spanking clean so there is no conduction between the posts and I always wear safety glasses. I have seen two instances of a spark blowing the top off batteries! No matter how careful you are, sometimes things happen — no bueno. By the way, when are you going to trot out that tool and parts magician, Jose Rodregez Chavez Jorge Clint Eastwood? We would all like to see your famous sidekick.

Does it need to be a modern switchmode welder? Can I use an older mains frequency (larger heavier coil) type stick welder?

I have a Hobart transformer type welder. Will it work for this, or is it necessary to use an inverter type, like you show in the "tools" section?

Hey Mike. I finally had the chance to do this for the first time, a few weeks ago. Because my own batteries are AGM's I had to wait for a dead lead acid battery. My father-in-law's one died and I used your method. And it works again. It's a great tip. Have a great week. Dutch regards, Nico.
